Faroe Islands elopement and wedding photographer
Photography for couples who choose the islands over the crowd. Wind, rain, fog and sudden light are part of the story here, and I know how to work with all of it.
Free dates still available for 2027.
01 · The difference
The islands don't follow a plan. Your photographer has to be ready for that.
The weather here changes by the hour. Wind shapes the light, rain comes and goes, and a clear valley can disappear into fog within minutes. Photographing a wedding in the Faroe Islands asks for more than a good camera. It asks for patience, judgment and a real love of being outdoors.
I've worked on these islands through rain, wind and fog, and I know how to adapt: where to stand, when to wait, and when to change the plan entirely. That experience is why the photographs feel calm, however the day unfolds.
-
Weather, planned for.
Every day has a backup. We adjust locations and timing to the light and wind on the day.
-
Places chosen with care.
Saksun, Tjørnuvík, Gjógv, Eiðisvatn, Fossá and beyond, chosen for light, access and privacy.
-
A calm, documentary hand.
Light guidance when it helps, space when it doesn't. Real moments over stiff poses.

03 · Why the Faroe Islands
Why couples choose the Faroe Islands
Eighteen islands in the North Atlantic, between Iceland and Norway. Grass-roof villages, sea cliffs, waterfalls that fall straight into the ocean, and roads where you might not meet another car for twenty minutes.
It's quieter than Iceland, easier to reach than most people think, and the landscape changes every hour. For a small wedding or an elopement for just the two of you, that space and quiet is hard to find anywhere else.
It will probably rain at some point. The light will change a lot. That's part of it, and it's why the photos look the way they do.

05 · In their words
“We took pictures in several different locations, for example, in Saksun, Tjornuvik, beside Eidisvatn, Gjogv, and Fossa. Each place is beautiful in its own way, and some locations added a raw touch to the pictures, which is a nice contrast. The pictures turned out beautifully, and we are very happy.”

07 · About
A photographer who has stood in the weather
I'm Aleks, a wedding and elopement photographer based in Copenhagen, and I photograph couples in the Faroe Islands. Many of them travel a long way to marry somewhere that means something to them. I know how much trust that takes, and I take the planning as seriously as the photographs.
My style is calm and documentary. No long list of poses. Just the two of you, the landscape, and what actually happens.

09 · Questions
Questions about eloping in the Faroe Islands
Can we legally get married in the Faroe Islands?
Yes. Non-resident couples can marry in a civil ceremony through a Faroese municipality, with notice and documents sent in advance. Requirements and fees are set by the municipality, so confirm them before you plan, and I'm happy to point you to the right contact. Many couples do the legal paperwork at home and have a personal ceremony in the Faroes instead. I'll help you choose what fits.
Can Americans visit the Faroe Islands?
Yes. US citizens can visit the Faroe Islands for a short tourist stay without a visa, because Americans don't need a visa for Denmark and the same exemption applies to the islands. You need a valid passport, and the Faroe Islands tourist board advises it should be valid for at least three months after your planned stay. The islands are not part of the Schengen Area, so a Schengen visa or stamp does not work as a Faroese one. Entry rules can change, so check the Danish Immigration Service page before you book.
Can same-sex couples get legally married there?
Yes, the Faroe Islands allow legally binding marriages for same-sex couples, as civil marriages, since July 2017.
When is the best time to elope in the Faroe Islands?
June to August has the longest days and mildest weather, but it's also high season, so accommodation and cars book up early. Spring and early autumn are quieter, with more dramatic light. My favorite months to photograph are the summer months, September included.
What if it rains?
It probably will at some point. Every plan has a backup, and we adjust locations and timing to the light and wind on the day. Some of the best photos happen in bad weather.
Are your travel costs included?
Yes. My flights and accommodation are included in every package.
How far ahead should we book?
Ideally 6–9 months ahead, so there is time to plan properly.
Do you help with planning?
Yes, planning is part of it: locations, timing, weather backups, and pointing you to local officiants, hair and makeup, and florists. I have a wide network of local vendors and share my recommendations once your booking is confirmed.
