A Faroe Islands wedding photographer who works with the weather
Hi, I'm Aleks
I'm a wedding and elopement photographer based in Copenhagen, and I photograph couples in the Faroe Islands. It's a short flight from home.
What I love about the islands is the nature, which is unlike anywhere else, and the conditions, which are challenging and make you appreciate the beauty of the place. I also love the culture, which is unique and remote.
The islands decide a lot. I've worked here through rain, wind and fog, sometimes all in one afternoon. That has taught me more than any course could: where the wind drops behind a hill, when a shower is about to pass, and when it's better to drive to the next valley than to wait.
I take the planning seriously. Most couples I photograph here travel a long way. They're trusting someone they've only met on a video call with a day that matters a great deal. I don't take that lightly, so the planning gets as much care as the photographs.
I keep it to three a year. I take on a maximum of three Faroe Islands weddings and elopements each year. That leaves time to plan properly with each couple, and to be fully present when the day comes.
Approach
How I work
- Calm and documentary I photograph what actually happens. The way you two hold onto each other when the wind picks up. The laugh after the vows. The quiet in the car between villages.
- Light guidance, not posing I'll tell you where to stand when the light is better a few steps to the left, or suggest a walk when you need to loosen up. Then I step back. No long list of poses.
- Planned for the weather Every plan has a backup. On the day, I watch the sky and the wind and adjust the order of locations, the timing, or the route. You don't need to worry about it. That's my job.
- Outdoors, for real Some of the best places here involve wet grass, a short climb or a sheep track. I'll tell you honestly what each location asks of you, and we choose what fits your day, your shoes and your guests.

Questions
Questions about working with me
Why do you limit yourself to three Faroe weddings a year?
Each one takes real planning: locations, timing, backups, travel. Keeping the number small means every couple gets my full attention, before the day and on it.
Do you travel from Copenhagen for each wedding?
Yes. I fly from Copenhagen, and my flights and accommodation are included in every package. There are direct flights between Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands all year.
What is your photography style?
Calm and documentary, with light guidance when it helps. You'll get natural moments, the landscape around you, and very little stiff posing. The edits are clean and true to the colors of the islands.
Will you still photograph if the weather is bad?
Yes. Rain, wind and fog are normal here, and I plan for them. We move locations or timing if we need to, and some of the most honest photographs come from those conditions.
Do you photograph in Copenhagen too?
Yes. I photograph proposals, families and weddings in Copenhagen, which you can see at aleksjakobsons.com.
